Dateline won't be doing Detroit a favor

NBC Dateline reporter Chris Hansen has brought is act to Detroit in an effort, he said, to tell the story about what happened to a great city. I don't think this is going to turn out well.

Hansen said the plan is to highlight the problems and possible solutions, so that Detroit might again return to greatness. This is a national story, and one that other cities could learn from. That is the way he explained it this morning on WDIV's Flashpoint show.

I got a bad feeling about some of the things he said he heard though (particularly about Detroit Public Schools, neighborhoods and crime). Some of it is old news and not an accurate reflection of things as they currently stand. Apparently I am not the only one. Some from the pro-Detroit crowd are already asking people to complain to Dateline online, and this is before the show has even aired.

Look forward to seeing the show tonight and continuing dialogue about it.
